With the DEM Digital Repeater nearly ready to install u on the mountain this is a good time to begin learning about DMR, digital mobile radio.

We may have a class on this soon if there’s enough interest but for now here’s some good online references for you:
DMR For Dummies (don’t let the title offend you)

When reading these resources know that the DEM Digital Repeater (see our repeater page for details) is a Brandmeister Network repeater, not to be confused with one of the many PNW repeaters which are DMR-MARC network.

Don’t be too quick to go out and buy a DMR radio. Ask around locally a bit. If you get a great deal on a radio nobody is familiar with it may not be such a great deal. Most people in our neck of the woods are going with AnyTone and they can help you over the hurdle of programming. These are not as easy as standard analog radios. Simply having the frequency, offset and tone is not going to get you anywhere.

Increasing in price in this order, the AnyTone AT-D868UV, AT-D878UV and AnyTone AT-D578UV are all popular radios here and many members can help you get them programmed.
